Belmont family raises awareness after loved one dies from tickborne illness
BELMONT, Maine — The family of a Waldo County woman is raising awareness about an illness that is transmitted by deer ticks, an illness more dangerous than Lyme. Eighty-year-old Arlene Crabtree died last month of complications from Babesiosis, a tickborne illness that destroys red blood cells. The Maine CDC said there have been 85 cases so far this year.
Section of Water Street in Augusta temporarily closed off
AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - A section of Water Street in Augusta was closed last night. According to Augusta Police, an alleged aggravated assault caused the section from the Walgreens to Green Street to be temporarily closed.
