With less than three weeks left to register, Floyd County’s voter roll for the Nov. 5 presidential election is showing a decrease from two years ago.

As of Tuesday, there were 59,820 active voters in the county, according to the Georgia secretary of state’s election data hub . That’s 142 fewer than in the run-up to the 2022 midterm election.

Voters can check their status — and register, if necessary — online at the Georgia My Voter Page . You can also register in person at the Floyd County Elections Center, 18 E. 12th St., or get forms to mail in at the library, public assistance offices, schools and other government offices. Photo ID is required.

Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. also is the deadline to submit any updates to your status, such as an address or name change, to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election. Early voting starts Oct. 16.

To register, you must be a U.S. citizen and legal resident of the county and at least 17½ years old. You must have turned 18 by election day in order to cast a ballot.

As of Tuesday, there were 7,076 registered voters between the ages of 18 and 24, representing 11.8% of the total number. However, that age category only accounted for 4.2% of the actual turnout in the 2022 election.

In comparison, there are just 4,650 registered voters between the ages of 65 and 69, representing 7.7% of the voter roll. In the 2022 election, that age group cast 11% of the total votes counted.

Looking at gender, Tuesday’s numbers on the data hub are comprised of 27,703 men (46.3%), 32,026 women (53.5%) and 91 people (1%) with no gender recorded. In the 2022 midterm, the total turnout was roughly the same make-up: 46.6% men, 53.2% women and 1% “other.”

White people make up nearly two-thirds of the current roster, at 37,430, equal to 62.6%. There were 6,061 active Black voters, 10.13%, as of Tuesday, and 2,164 Hispanics accounting for 3.6%. The balance includes Asian and Pacific Islanders, Native Americans and 13,310 people listed as race unknown.

White people accounted for a significantly higher percentage of votes cast in 2022 — 82.7%. The racial breakdown for total turnout included 9.4% for Black voters and 1.4% for Hispanics.
