    John McClellan's Picks For High School Football Week 6

    The second phase of the Georgia high school football season gets into full swing this week as the schools that didn’t start region play last week do so now.

    Darlington, Model, Pepperell and Unity Christian all begin their region schedules, while Rome, Armuchee and Coosa continue theirs. Cass and Cedartown clash in an important Region 7-4A battle, while Class 3A No. 10 Calhoun is off.

    Armuchee (3-1, 0-1) at Chattooga (4-0, 1-0)

    Series history: Chattooga leads 15-9

    Last meeting: Armuchee defeated Chattooga 27-20 on Sept. 29, 2023.

    The Armuchee Indians, who played on the road Thursday night, fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in a 42-0 loss to Gordon Lee. The Chattooga Indians, who are off to their first 4-0 start since 2009, dominated Gordon Central in a 55-6 win.

    Chattooga wins by 18.

    Coosa (2-2, 0-1) at Gordon Central (2-2, 0-1)

    Series history: Coosa leads 7-5

    Last meeting: Coosa defeated Gordon Central 33-6 on Sept. 1, 2023.

    The Coosa Eagles, who were playing at home for the second week in a row, lost to No. 5 Fannin County 42-0. The Gordon Central Warriors fell to 2-2 following a 55-6 loss to unbeaten Chattooga.

    Coosa wins by 13.

    Class 5A No. 10 Rome (1-2, 1-0) at Alexander (1-3, 0-1)

    Series history: Rome leads 2-0

    Last meeting: Rome defeated Alexander 16-6 on Oct. 22, 2021.

    The Rome Wolves controlled the first half Friday night and moved into the driver’s seat in Region 5-5A with a 27-7 win over previously unbeaten East Paulding. The Alexander Cougars dropped to 1-3 on the season after a 35-14 loss to Villa Rica.

    Rome wins by more than 30.

    Model (2-2, 0-0) at Bremen (2-2, 0-0)

    Series history: Bremen leads 8-6-1

    Last meeting: Bremen defeated Model 17-0 on Nov. 15, 2019, in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

    The Model Blue Devils, who were off Friday night, lost to unbeaten Trion 22-12 in their last outing. The Bremen Blue Devils led in the fourth quarter Friday night before Rabun County scored late to win 24-21.

    Bremen wins by 9.

    Darlington (2-2, 0-0) at Haralson County (1-3, 0-0)

    Series history: Darlington leads 15-5

    Last meeting: Darlington defeated Haralson County 32-7 on Nov. 10, 1995.

    The Darlington Tigers came from 14 points behind and hung on at the end in a 27-20 victory over Whitefield Academy. The Haralson County Rebels saw their record fall to 1-3 following a 28-3 loss at Putnam County.

    Darlington wins by 11.

    Temple (3-1, 0-0) at Pepperell (0-4, 0-0)

    Series history: Pepperell leads 6-2

    Last meeting: Pepperell defeated Temple 19-14 on Sept. 15, 2023.

    The Temple Tigers, who did not play last week, defeated South Atlanta 34-21 two weeks ago. The Pepperell Dragons, who also were off Friday night, fell to 0-4 two weeks ago after a 44-0 shutout by undefeated Cedartown.

    Temple wins by 7.

    Horizon Christian (0-4, 0-0) at Unity Christian (3-0, 0-0)

    Series history: Unity Christian leads 8-2

    Last meeting: Unity Christian defeated Horizon Christian 38-34 on Sept. 22, 2023.

    The Horizon Christian Warriors, who are looking for their first win, were scoreless in a 40-0 loss to Trinity Christian of Griffin. The Unity Christian Lions kept their perfect record intact after defeating King’s Way Christian 58-14.

    Unity Christian wins by more than 30.

    Cass (3-2, 0-1) at Class 4A No. 7 Cedartown (5-0, 1-0)

    Series history: Cedartown leads 26-4

    Last meeting: Cedartown defeated Cass 54-28 on Oct. 25, 2013.

    The Cass Colonels fell victim to last week’s biggest upset in northwest Georgia following a 41-27 loss to Hiram. The Cedartown Bulldogs ran their season mark to 5-0 after defeating Allatoona 45-7.

    Cedartown wins by 1.

    Class 4A No. 2 Cartersville (5-0, 1-0) at Woodland (1-2, 0-0)

    Series history: Cartersville leads 8-0

    Last meeting: Cartersville defeated Woodland 43-0 on Oct. 20, 2023.

    The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes stayed perfect on the year by defeating Dalton 43-13. The Woodland Wildcats, who were off Friday night, lost to intra-county opponent Adairsville 44-14 in their last outing.

    Cartersville wins by more than 30.

    Class 2A No. 8 Rockmart (2-2, 2-0) at Coahulla Creek (0-4, 0-2)

    Series history: Rockmart leads 2-0

    Last meeting: Rockmart defeated Coahulla Creek 42-7 on Sept. 10, 2021.

    The Rockmart Yellow Jackets remained atop the standings in Region 7-2A with a 26-12 win over Union County. The Coahulla Creek Colts, who still are winless in 2024, lost to Sonoraville 28-7.

    Rockmart wins by more than 30.

    LaFayette (0-4, 0-0) at Adairsville (3-1, 0-0)

    Series history: Adairsville leads 10-2

    Last meeting: Adairsville defeated LaFayette 44-14 on Sept. 29, 2023.

    The LaFayette Ramblers fell to 0-4 following a 50-21 loss to unbeaten Trion. The Adairsville Tigers, who did not play Friday night, defeated Woodland 44-14 two weeks ago.

    Adairsville wins by 26.

    Murray County (1-4, 0-3) at Sonoraville (1-3, 1-1)

    Series history: Sonoraville leads 5-1

    Last meeting: Sonoraville defeated Murray County 48-7 on Oct. 8, 2021.

    The Murray County Indians fell to 1-4 following a 40-14 defeat by North Murray. The Sonoraville Phoenix, who entered the night with an 0-3 record, scored all of its points in the first half in a 28-7 win over Coahulla Creek.

    Sonoraville wins by more than 30.

    Robbinsville (N.C.) (1-3) at Trion (4-0)

    Series history: First Meeting

    The Robbinsville Black Knights fell to 1-3 following a 46-0 loss to Copper Basin (Tenn.). The Trion Bulldogs maintained their unbeaten record and state ranking after dominating LaFayette 50-21. This game was a replacement on the schedule after region opponent Fulton Leadership Academy closed prior to the start of the school year.

    Trion wins by more than 30.
