Offices, Roads in Floyd Closed Friday As Helene Moves Out. Rainfall at 9 Inches

Flooded roads, dozens of downed trees, power outages and at least 9 inches of rain comprise the aftermath of Tropical Storm Helene as of Friday morning.
Water levels in creeks and rivers continue to rise causing more roads to be closed in low lying areas. We also have reports of several trees down, one is down across powerlines on Kingston Avenue at Prater Road.
Between Thursday and 8:30 a.m. Friday, 6.15 inches of rain had fallen at Richard B. Russell Airport/Towers Field. A flash flood warning is in effect for eastern Floyd through 11:30 a.m.

Winds have dropped to 12 mph through 8 a.m. with gusts of 23 mph.
Some trees have fallen across Floyd County overnight, including a few on power lines. Crews have been clearing them through the night and early Friday. Power outages are growing, with 642 customers without service through 8:30 a.m. in parts of Floyd.
At 8 a.m., Helene was still packing 60-mph winds and was 40 miles southeast of Clemson, S.C., barreling north-northeast at a stunning 30 mph.

Rome, Floyd County and Cave Spring government offices will be closed Friday as will schools and health department locations, among other businesses.
