The Floyd County Police Department has been awarded a $99,908.64 grant to boost efforts in reducing DUI incidents and improving road safety.

The grant is part of the state's Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic program for the 2025 fiscal year and aims to combat traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities stemming from impaired driving and speeding.

Floyd County is one of 26 law enforcement agencies across Georgia receiving this year's HEAT grants, which support targeted traffic enforcement in areas with high crash rates. The grant will help the department’s HEAT unit develop and implement strategies to reduce aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors locally.

“Federal and state crash data show sustained enforcement of traffic laws reduces crashes and saves lives on our roads,” said Allen Poole, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “GOHS will continue to partner with state and local law enforcement to implement projects and initiatives designed to protect everyone using our roads and to help reach our goal of zero traffic deaths in Georgia and our nation.”

The Floyd County Police Department will also participate in statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI campaigns and Click It or Ticket seatbelt initiatives. Through these programs, the department will coordinate with GOHS in high-visibility patrols, sobriety checkpoints and multi-jurisdictional road checks throughout the year.
