Rome suffers severe damage from storms, State of Emergency declared

ROME, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The strong storms that raced through Central New York on Tuesday afternoon, July 16, produced widespread damage in Rome.

A State of Emergency is in effect for Rome with police advising no unnecessary travel.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente said no major injuries were reported in their area from the storm. He also declared a State of Emergency for the entire county.

There is a shelter set up at Griffiss International Airport in Rome at 394 Hangar Road.

There will also be a curfew in effect in Rome and the surrounding areas from 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night until 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, Picente said.
