ROME, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On Thursday, July 18, Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. and Rome Mayor Jeffery Lannigan provided several key updates surrounding the Rome tornado response.
Rome suffers severe damage from storms, State of Emergency declared
Extreme damage has been left in the area following a tornado. Many were without power and road closures were put in place. However as of Thursday morning 80% of road closures and 71% of power outages were restored.
County Executive Picente says as the state of emergency remains in place for the City of Rome, a curfew for areas still affected by the tornado will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Areas with a curfew can be found on the county’s website .
Many businesses were affected by the storm including county offices, as county offices continue to make repairs temporary offices will be set up at Griffiss International Airport.
“We are establishing temporary services, temporary offices here at Griffiss at 394 Hanger Road,” said Picente. ” The same place medical is available — the Red Cross is there, our health department, mental health services is there, any medical services are being offered for any in need of that.”
Services will also be available in south Rome as it has been the hardest hit area by the tornado.
“We will be opening the South Rome Senior Center for meals for people in those areas,” said Picente. “That will be announced later today for when they’ll be open.”
Another area where people can get resources is Freedom Mall Plaza. Services will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In this update, it was announced that Rome DMV Offices are closed for now. People will need to go to Utica for this service.
