August Ronceverte City Council Meeting Held on Monday Evening

RONCEVERTE W.Va. (WVDN) – On Monday night, Aug. 5, the Ronceverte City Council held their monthly meeting at City Hall in Ronceverte.

After mayor Deena Pack approved the minutes, things took a sour turn when a concerned and relatively unhappy citizen stood up to speak about an issue he has been having. From the information gathered, someone allegedly built a garage or some type of building that extends onto the citizens property. The individual said he has made numerous complaints but has been told since no city worker has seen it, there is nothing they can do outside of speaking to a lawyer. The answers he has been getting do not sit well with the individual.

“I’m going to have to go down there and tell the people that I’m going to paint my side of it [the building] with graffiti,” he said.

And he was not done.

If you go speeding down the street at 90 miles per hour out here and the police don’t see it, does that make it legal,” he asked.

“It’s a poor rule that you as a city cannot enforce the rules you came up with,” he added.

He then closed out his thoughts.

“I hate to do it but I’m going to become that Karen. I’m going to be the guy on Facebook that says Ronceverte, do what you want because they don’t enforce rules. If they don’t see it happen, they don’t enforce it. If you can do something about it, I’d appreciate it, but I’m sad to say I’m from Ronceverte. I’m so disappointed. I’ve lived in Ronceverte for 12 years and it’s pathetic,” he said just before he walked out.

That was the only tense moment of the evening.

• Resolution no. 5 regarding invoices for a water upgrade and the payment to be made in full was approved.

• Resolution no. 6, vendor Thomas and Battle invoice for design and construction of the Stormwater project was approved.

The next order of business was Jessica Levine, a new business owner of Sow Bees Initiative, asking to be able to plant native plants in planter beds around the town. She used examples and pictures of what she had done in the past in other locations and the panel seemed interested. They went ahead and approved the planting which will begin sometime in September.

• Mayor Pack urged people to support the Ronceverte Fire Department who will have a restaurant set up at the state fair. Parts of the proceeds will go back to the fire department.

• Council member Leah Smith updated the ‘Accelerate Team’ project which got the okay to move forward with the renovation of the Armory. They are hiring people to come in and develop a master plan for the whole project. The goal is to get the building back to the way it used to be when it was a big part of the Ronceverte community.

• Funding for disc golf was received and the new miniature golf course is “coming along,” according to mayor Pack. She also commented that the Ronceverte Raiders football team and their cheerleaders will begin having fundraisers to support their football league as well.

• The Family Refuge Center will set up on Main Street soon for donations for their domestic violence program.

• Finally, the council confirmed the final ‘Food Truck Festival’ on a Saturday in September. The Friday before, a Farmer’s Market will be available to the public to make it a nice weekend.
