The Dikker Hill fire had grown to 361 acres Thursday afternoon. It’s burning halfway between Coalville and Henefer, about 5 miles from each. West Jordan firefighters using new heavy, specialized blanket to fight EV fires
WEST JORDAN— West Jordan firefighters trained Tuesday morning on how to fight an EV battery fire. And fight not with water, but with a specialized blanket. EV fires, or electrical vehicle fires, while not as common, are more tricky to put out than the average gas car fire. This is because the battery is designed to protect the inside from the elements.

Community members check out the band photos in Alta High yearbooks at the grand opening of the new school instrumental room. (Julie Slama/City Journals) When Caleb Shabestari was a band student at Alta High in 2008, he, as many of those before him and after, signed a brick in the music room. He was the band historian, and it was the first year Alta High had put its recordings on YouTube so he wrote YouTube along with his name.

Castle Valley residents in shock after receiving tax notices
I wasn’t shocked when I opened the envelope containing our Grand County 2024 notice of property valuation and tax changes. I wasn’t shocked only because I had already heard from my neighbor who received his tax notice a few days before me and said he was “shocked.” He said he had a $1,290 increase and he was wondering if it was a mistake. Then I began reading rumblings on the Castle Valley Facebook page from Castle Valley folks who started receiving their tax notices.
Drought returns to Utah, but storms forecast to continue in state's driest region
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's droughtless streak didn't last very long, but the section now in drought could get some much-needed rain over the next few days. About 5% of the state — almost entirely in Tooele County — is back in moderate drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor's weekly report released on Thursday. It comes three weeks after the Beehive State was drought-free for the first time since 2019 as it cleared out in eastern Utah.
