Wasatch County Fair Days opens with demolition derby
Wasatch County Parks and Recreation has a full calendar of events for this year’s Fair Days. Festivities are planned from July 26 to Aug. 3. The demolition derby will be on Friday and Saturday evenings, July 26-27, at the outdoor arena on Southfield Road. Marketing coordinator Jennifer Bowman said the car-crushing event is an exciting way to open the fair.
Fighter squadron wins top award, first in Hill Air Force Base history
OGDEN — For the first time, a fighter squadron from Hill Air Force Base has won what could be considered the Stanley Cup for pilots and the many personnel who support them. The annual Raytheon Trophy is passed to the top flight squadron in the Air Force, judged on missions they participate in, inspection results, exercise participation, squadron achievements and individual achievements.

78-year-old man ordered to stand trial for 2021 murder
SALT LAKE CITY — A 78-year-old man has been ordered to stand trial for the 2021 murder of a Sandy woman after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing. William Richard O'Reilly, of South Jordan, is accused of shooting and stabbing Masako Yamada Kenley, an acquaintance and former co-worker, multiple times, and then dumping her body near the Jordan River in Sandy. He is charged with murder and discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, both first-degree felonies; and obstructing justice, a second-degree felony.
Ohio man arrested at Cedar City truck stop, accused of kidnapping California teen
CEDAR CITY — An Ohio man was arrested in Cedar City on Wednesday and accused of kidnapping a 15-year-old from California. Just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Cedar City dispatchers received a call from a parent in San Diego who said their daughter was kidnapped and taken from their home about 2 a.m., a police booking affidavit said. The caller told police their daughter had met a man online, but she didn't really know him.
