Our Hocking Hills Getaway at Cherry Ridge Retreat

    2021-07-21

Hocking Hills provides some of the best outdoor explorations that the state of Ohio has to offer.  It has waterfalls, caves, trails overlooking the forest, and wildlife galore. We had a great time exploring Hocking Hills and making Cherry Ridge Retreat our jumping-off point to explore the region.

    The Basics

Hocking Hills is a beautiful area of southern Ohio with lots to explore.  We love being in this area.  The Cherry Ridge Retreat provides luxury cabins on a private 140-acre retreat.  There are so many amenities, which I’ll tell you all about.

We were thrilled when Cherry Ridge Retreat offered us a one-night stay.  We heard good things about this place, and were so excited to see it for ourselves.  It was the perfect way to end a long work week.  We stayed in the romantic Oak Ridge Cabin and it did not disappoint.

Rates are comparable in price to many cabin stays in Hocking Hills.  Most cabins require you to stay at least 2 nights, which is very common in Hocking Hills.

We’ve stayed at many places in Hocking Hills, and this was by far the nicest.  It felt special, and the attention to detail was what made it stand out.

    The Amenities

What we loved about this cabin were the amenities.  First off, the kitchen had everything we could want or need.  It even had a food processor and coffee grinder.  We grilled chicken and made grilled chicken Caesar salad, and for breakfast, we made bacon and eggs. All we brought was food.  The kitchen had everything else!

We loved the massage chairs.  There were two in the “movie room” so we could sit there and be massaged while watching The Office.  It doesn’t get much better than this, people!  I think we spent the bulk of our time here.  I definitely fell asleep in one of them because it was so relaxing.

The hot tub in the woods was perfect.  It was accessible from the bedroom.  You simply put your swimsuit on, walk out and you’re right there.  Also, this hot tub was actually hot.

Have you ever stepped foot into a “hot tub” and discovered it to be lukewarm?  I have, and it’s incredibly disappointing.  But not this tub.  This tub was actually hot.  I loved it.  I also loved that there was a little bar with stools in the gazebo right by the hot tub.  If you were planning to spend some time out here, you could eat and then follow that up with a soak.

I loved the little electric fireplace.  The fireplace not only heated our room (which was perfect after walking in from the hot tub and feeling wet and chilly), but it also added to the ambiance.

I put on the 1940s music channel, turned the fire on, and enjoyed sitting in the living room with a blanket and glass of wine.  It felt so relaxing and luxurious.

The TV provided over 200 HD channels, including music, as well as a way to log into Netflix.  We were fully entertained.

The bed was so comfortable. We both slept great and woke up feeling refreshed.

    The Grounds

The grounds of the property are wonderful.  There are little footpaths into the woods for a little short hike.

There was also an area with an outdoor grill, gazebo, and pond.  It was a beautiful property to explore in the woods.

When I woke in the morning, the sun was shinning through the window.  I looked up and saw all the beautiful trees and plants.  It helped that we were here in some of the first warm days of Spring.  We have been ansy to get outside!

I walked out to the porch and enjoyed my coffee in the morning light, listening to the birds chirping.

    The Hocking Hills Area

As I mentioned before, this retreat is a great jumping-off point to explore Hocking Hills.  On this particular trip, we visited one of my favorite short hikes that leads to a great view.  (It’s sort of a “secret” place that you’ll have to ask me nicely if you want me to tell you where it is!)

We then visited Ash Cave, which is another one of my favorites.

We really had such a wonderful time visiting Hocking Hills, and especially the Cherry Ridge Retreat.  It made our trip here special and luxurious.  I felt so good and pampered.  I am already looking forward to my next visit to this area!
