On September 5, 2024, Alexis recieved her Certificate of Completion of Onslow County's Veteran's Treatment Court (VTC) Mentor Training Program in Jacksonville, NC. Having signed and witnessed her success were; The Honorable and VTC Presiding Judge Michael Surles, Dominic Kimzey; VTC Program Director, and Sgt. Major Michael Cline; VTC Mentor Program Coordinator.

Miss Alexis Tovar is a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. She is one who undertstands the importance of having a mentor and strong support system when faced with some of life's most lowest and challenging moments. When asked the question as to what drives her passion in helping veterans live a more civilized life, such as overcoming drug abuse, homelessness, etc, her reponse was "I have been in their shoes before. I have had some of the same challenges that they face, but it was having that support system there when I needed them, that helped me make it through".

Alexis notes that only incarcerated veterans age 18+ are able to apply for the Veterans Treatment Court program, and there must be a judge to approve the 12-month committment. Alexis states that the number one focus as a mentor to veterans enrolled into this treatment program, is "to be their number one support system; Available 24/7".

" The first Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) was founded by the Honorable Robert Russell in Buffalo, New York, in January 2008. The structure of VTC is similar to that of drug treatment and mental health courts in that they involve cooperation and collaboration with court officials, community partners, and law enforcement. The goal is to connect eligible veterans with benefits and treatment earned through military service. There are 10 key components to the VTC." (North Carolina Judicial Branch website; nccourts.gov).

Congratulations Again Miss Alexis Tovar in all of your hard work and committment to our veterans!
