Bringing the Paint to Elm City

It has been a long time coming for Spivey. A once neglected local park has recently undergone a major facelift in 2023-2024. With a few trees and overhung branches removed, a basketball court extension, a few new benches, a new picnic table, and two new top of the line basketball goals by "Goalrilla"; Spivey Park has ushered in a new facelift for area youth to enjoy in Elm City. Although the town does currently have two parks, ole Spivey has had its share of years of neglect.

In a two year old facebook "Mayor Moore" video post (2022) titled; Young people of Elm City, I too believe in an improved “Parks and Recreation”! Spivey Park; You’re not forgotten, Mayor Moore was seen on the basketball court expressing her desire for an upgrade. See link below for full video post. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/7ztSd93AZykzv5aY/

Mayor Moore, staff and current elected officials are proud of the recent upgrades and community youth will now get to experience dreams that were once delayed but now undenied!

"In the Paint, LLC" company based out of Charlotte, NC, is responsible for bringing the paint to Elm City. Contractor and CEO Mr. Chip Hammonds, has been In The Paint since 1995 and according to his facebook information, this company "specializes in customized basketball and pickleball court painting, serving the Carolinas with quality work at affordable pricing".

Spivey park was donated to the town by the late Alice Spivey and is located at 408 Wilson Street. The blue and gold colors depicted below, were inspired by the local Frederick Douglas Elementary School, which is soon set to undergo an all new rebuild.

Other upcoming projects schedulef for the town of Elm City is a recently awarded Wilson Arts Council "Mural Grant" featuring the prominent icon, Coach Harvey Reid. More information should be available soon.
