Hollywood Studios is one of the four parks under the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando located in the state of Florida that was once Disney-MGM Studio in 1989 that was to be the “Hollywood of the East. ” The foundations of the proposed Disney’s Hollywood Studios was going to be the capitalization of motion pictures, television shows, and animation studios and everything coming from a production workshop like the Mickey Mouse Club revival with stars. Moreover, the studio found that the production cost of shooting in Florida was much higher than it had expected, and since 2004 Disney moved all production back to California while at its Orlando-based theme park, things continued to run just fine without the presence of movie stars on site.

This did not cut the competition for Florida’s film industry that continues to grow due to its climate and beaches that provide an exotic feel needed for that location; one of the cheapest alternatives to Hawaii. The Walt Disney studios company closed its full-time production studio but it continued to operate in part in Florida. However, California has been gradually losing its popularity as a film set destination, mainly due to the competition from Georgia, which hit the jackpot with a tax incentive for filmmakers in 2008. Offering 30% back with no caps on the amount a production can receive, Georgia has attracted several major Disney productions, including high-budget Marvel films like Captain America: Versatile historical and contemporary issues from the Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.

However, Florida: Florida began losing support in its film industry and ultimately ended with the closure of the Florida State Film Office in 2021. The executive department of this office was combined with Florida Commerce and as a result it has been minimized its function of film production attraction. This lack of support, coupled with the removal of tax incentives, has resulted in large-scale films wanting to shoot in Florida failing to the tune of over $2 billion over the course of two years alone.

"Does the state want us to invest more, employ more people and pay more taxes, or not?" Iger mused on the May 10 conference call.

"Nothing ever came of the project, and the state was unsure whether it would come to fruition," the spokesperson said. "Given the company's financial straits, falling market cap and declining stock price, it is unsurprising that they would restructure their business operations and cancel unsuccessful ventures."

    Conclusion

Although the film companies are yet to enter Georgia, so far it is a welcoming financial landscape for the studios that are major competitors to Disney while Florida’s film industry faces stiff competition based on policy changes and reduced marketing efforts. The state which at one time was striving to be a destination for serious movie production is today in dire straits due to lack of policies on incentives and the existence of a film commission. Disney’s relocation perfectly illustrates the role of money in decision making and the general tendemp of cinema to gravitate towards spaces that encourage the film industry. It may be time to reevaluate the Florida plans if it is to reclaim its position in the moviemaking space.
