If your travel plans include the Oregon coast, be sure to stop at Yolk Restaurant in the quiet coastal town of Manzanita for the best brunch around.

Located on Manzanita's main strip, Yolk does one thing – brunch – and it does it well.

Yolk’s mission is “to provide delicious, imaginative fare created with a little “twist”, served with the caring attention of exceptional staff, that makes you want to come back tomorrow!”

They take their mission seriously. After one trip to Yolk, you will want to return again and again. You might even consider making a special trip to Manzanita just for brunch.

A Yolk customer favorite – and the best thing on the excellent menu -- is the corned beef hash. But this is not your roadhouse greasy spoon version. The corned beef is nicely seasoned and slow-cooked in-house, and so tender it breaks off your fork. It’s combined with potatoes that are perfected crispy on the outside and soft inside, green peppers, onions, garlic, and basil. It’s topped with your choice of eggs and served with toast or a light and fluffy biscuit. Don’t forget the jam. You get a generous portion for $16.

Yolk has a wide variety of scrambles, all served with your option of sauteed potatoes or dressed greens, along with toast or a biscuit for $12-15 depending on which one you choose.

The “Bacavo scramble” adds bacon, tomato, avocado, and gorgonzola, which sets it apart from the cheddar or swiss that usually comes with a breakfast scramble. If you like your breakfast with a touch of spice try the “Baja scramble” with chorizo sausage, onion, tomato, cilantro, sour cream, avocado, and salsa.

If you want something really out of the ordinary, try the “Cheese Shrimp & Grits”. At $18 it’s at the high end of the menu, but the quality of this dish is worth the price. The dish is served with perfectly prepared grits cooked with sharp cheddar cheese, three large garlic shrimp, bacon, seasoned greens, andouille sausage, and poached eggs.

If you want something sweet, the Lemon Ricotta pancakes are a special treat. Available in one, two, or three cake sizes, it’s a great add-on to another entrée, or order it as a standalone meal. The cakes are served with warmed maple syrup – the real kind, not the grocery store kind – and an option to add marionberries.

Another sweet treat is the Crispy French Toast, made with house-baked brioche which is soaked for a while before grilling, creating a sweet and custardy center. Just like the Lemon Ricotta pancakes, you can choose from one, two, or three pieces to supplement another item or enjoy them by themselves, topped with warm syrup of course.

If you like a little extra kick for your breakfast drinks, try the mimosa. It’s just the right blend of champagne and orange juice, and a good-sized portion, not the thimble-sized glasses you sometimes get at restaurants. Yolk also offers a variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options.

If breakfast food is not your jam, don’t worry, Yolk also offers some high-quality lunch items that will move you away from the egg side of the menu.

There are a variety of delicious sandwiches priced from $15 to $16, well within the price range of restaurants in Manzanita.

The Lamb Burger is a melt-in-your-mouth patty of lamb meat topped with caramelized onions, garlic, feta cheese, and house-made aioli. The Reuben combines that same mouth-watering corned beef that is included in the breakfast hash, but the Reuben combines it with sauerkraut, provolone cheese, and housemade thousand island dressing, served on grilled dark rye bread.

For the vegetarians in the group, Yolk offers a grilled eggplant sandwich topped with roasted red peppers, grilled onions, feta cheese, basic, and her mayo.

To go with your sandwich, try a side of cheesy waffle fries or an order of grits – your choice of cheesy or gravy topped. You won’t regret it.

Be sure to check out the rotating menu of seasonal specials. Each day offers at least three different options combining fresh and locally produced produce and seafood primarily caught in the Manzanita area.

The service at Yolk is friendly and competent, just the right balance of making sure your needs are met without bugging you every other bite.

Yolk is currently open Friday through Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. so be sure to plan your trip to Manzanita accordingly. If you arrive mid-week, you’ll miss out for sure. You can order to go or choose to dine on the open air patio or indoors, with appropriate social distancing.

Yolk takes COVID protocols seriously. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and offers nice touches like new pens for each user, hand sanitizer, and strict adherence to mask requirements.
