The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 68-year-old legally blind man, Lynn Simmons, who went missing in Sutherlin, OR. Residents are urged to check surveillance footage and report any sightings.

Some of the hottest temperatures so far this year for the Umpqua Valley are expected over the next few days. Forecasters at the National Weather Service said a strong high-pressure system anchored in the desert southwest, which is bringing record high temperatures for that region, is extending northward and is slated to bring highs in the mid-80s to low-90s through at least Sunday. For Roseburg, this will be up to 15 degrees above the normal afternoon high temperatures for early June, which average around the mid-70s.

Oregon State Hospital plans to train medical staff to immediately check the vital signs of new patients and respond to life-threatening emergencies with adequate equipment. TWO HOSPITALIZED AFTER TRAVEL TRAILER FIRE IN RIDDLE
Two people were hospitalized after a travel trailer fire in Riddle Tuesday night. Fire Chief Devin Loughridge of the Riddle Fire Protection District said just after 9:30 p.m. crews were dispatched to the 300 block of East First Avene after multiple callers said a trailer had exploded. Loughridge said firefighters quickly arrived and found the fifth wheel with extensive damage to the outside, with smoke showing.
DRIVER LOSES CONTROL LEADING TO INJURY HEAD-ON FREEWAY CRASH
A driver lost control of his vehicle, leading to a head-on freeway crash on Sunday afternoon. An Oregon State Police report said just before 4:00 p.m. the accident took place while a pickup was merging onto Interstate Five southbound at the Sutherlin interchange. The vehicle spun around and consequently caused an SUV to collide into it. Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled rest in the middle of the freeway.

TROOPERS JAIL MAN AFTER FREEWAY WRECK
Troopers with the Oregon State Police jailed a man following a freeway wreck late Sunday night. An OSP report said just before 12:00 a.m. Monday a vehicle crashed into a van on Interstate Five northbound near the south Roseburg exit. Douglas County Fire District No.2 arrived on the scene prior to law enforcement. Crews observed the 20-year-old driver of the first vehicle as being intoxicated. Prior to performing the duties of a driver, that vehicle fled the scene. Approximately one mile away, OSP located the vehicle which had crashed along the road on Highway 99 South. The driver had fled the scene but was located approximately 100 yards away attempting to conceal himself.
ROSEBURG MAN JAILED ON KIDNAP AND ASSAULT CHARGES
A Roseburg man was jailed on second-degree kidnapping and assault charges on Saturday night. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 5:45 p.m. a caller said the 41-year-old and a victim were fighting outside a business along Interstate Five in Rice Hill. The caller said both got into a vehicle and went south on the freeway. A deputy found the vehicle stopped in the middle of the freeway, just north of Oakland. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he saw the suspect hitting the victim in the face. When the suspect saw the deputy, he hopped out of the vehicle with his hands up. The deputy saw that the victim’s face was covered in blood and continuing to bleed. The suspect pulled the vehicle off the freeway.

ROSEBURG POLICE CITE PAIR FOR DRINKING IN PUBLIC
Roseburg Police cited two people for drinking in public on Monday night. An RPD report said at 9:20 p.m. officers contacted the 49-year-old man and 44-year-old woman in the alley of the 700 block of Southeast Cass Avenue with open alcoholic beverages. They were both cited and released without incident.

The Umpqua Community College Performing and Visual Arts present “CODA” – The Umpqua Singers and Big Horn Jazz Band Year-end Concert”. ROSEBURG POLICE JAIL WOMAN FOR ALLEGED PRIOR THEFT
Roseburg Police jailed a woman for an alleged prior theft on Friday. An RPD report said the 27-year-old was identified as the suspect who allegedly stole a wallet from inside a business in the 1600 block of Northeast Stephens Street. She was contacted at 1:50 p.m. and admitted to taking the wallet and giving it to a friend.
