ROSEDALE — In an effort to foster meaningful community engagement, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski visited and toured businesses, schools, restaurants and other establishments in all seven county districts in what is known as “District Day.”

Held this year on July 11, District Day is an annual tradition arranged by the Olszewski Administration. The county executive joined members of his office of community engagement, communications team and department of economic and workforce development in the effort.

Olszewski’s first stop was in District 7 at the Local 486 Plumbers & Steamfitters Apprenticeship Training School in Rosedale.

He took an in-depth tour of the facility, located at1201 66th Street, to learn more about apprenticeship programs, the skilled trades and other career insights in Local 486’s learning center. Olszewski and other visitors learned more about the importance of skilled trades.

As part of District Day, Olszewski asked questions, heard concerns from business owners and made them aware of county resources, learned about the mission of each establishment he visited and more.

Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 486 was established in 1995 after the consolidation of Plumbers Local 48 and Steamfitters Local 438.

Representing nearly 2,000 union-trained plumbers and steamfitters, Local 486 is affiliated with the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada.

Members of the union are highly trained craftsmen who fabricate, install and service piping systems — whether it be in single-family homes, garden and high-rise apartment buildings, large and small office buildings, power plants, chemical installations, factories, public buildings or health care facilities.

“District Days are an opportunity for the County Executive to engage directly with business owners throughout Baltimore County, sharing conversation in what is working well for their business and ways to strengthen relationships between them and the county,” said Erica Crouch from the county’s office of community engagement.

“The county executive presented each business owner with an executive citation to commend their dedication, commitment and investment to Baltimore County and for their positive impact to communities.”
