The 2nd day of the Sacramento Futures Championships saw Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics 16-year-old Kelsey Zhang ripped a new personal best of 4:48.82 en route to winning the women’s 400 IM by a considerable margin. Zhang’s previous best of 4:51.14 was set back in May at the PC SCSC George Haines International meet. Last night, Zhang swam a very balanced race, splitting 1:04.44 on fly, 1:16.99 on back, 1:22.56 on breast, and 1:04.83 on free. Canyons Aquatic Club 14-year-old Emma Hussein had a heck of a swim for 2nd as well, touching in 4:53.05. That performance blew away her personal best of 4:56.43, which the youngster had just set at the LA Invite about 3 weeks ago.

The Park Fire continues to expand northward toward Shingletown, CA and away from the KCRA viewing area because of gusty south winds. Winds are expect to continue in the southwesterly direction over the coming days as well. Smoke from the fire creating hazardous air quality and is moving to the north and east, impacting areas like Lassen National Park and pushing into Nevada.

On the 3rd day of the Sacramento Futures Championships, Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics 16-year-old Kelsey Zhang kept it rolling. After a big swim in the 400 IM on Thursday night, Zhang was back in action in the women’s 100 fly on Friday night, where she won in a time of 1:00.53. The performance came in just off Zhang’s career best of 1:00.10, which she set in May of this year. Fellow 16-year-old Sage Miller, a product of Iolani Swim Club in Honolulu, HI, came in 2nd with a 1:00.95. That was a huge personal best for Miller, taking nearly a full second off her previous mark of 1:01.75, which she swam just last week at the Hawaii LC Age Group Championships.
