Boogie Down the Bayou – A fundraiser to support veterans, fallen first responders
DENHAM SPRINGS – On Sunday, July 21st, the Louisiana VFW District 8 is hosting a heartfelt fundraiser for the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting America’s heroes. The event, aptly named “Boogie Down the Bayou,” will take place from 11 AM to 7 PM.

BATON ROUGE – Seven LSU athletes earned top honors in the 2024 Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s All-Louisiana Track and Field team announced this weekend. A panel of track media/communications members nominated and selected the award winners for both men and women. 44th Annual NSU Folk Festival
The 44th Annual Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival will be held in airconditioned Prather Coliseum on the Northwestern State University campus in Natchitoches on Saturday, July 20. The 2024 festival theme is “The Old Songs Live Forever!” The festival’s curated showcase of Louisiana folk artists, food vendors, and crafts vendors will open at 9 am, with live entertainment scheduled for 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
City Council Agenda for July 22 Meeting – Tonight
Natchitoches City Council will have a pre-council meeting on Monday, July 22 beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. to discuss non-agenda items. The City Council meeting will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month and will be reserved to only items on the Agenda. The public is invited to both the pre-council meetings and council meetings with the understanding that items not on the agenda will not be discussed at the scheduled council meetings, but the public is welcome to discuss any topic at the pre-council meetings. The City Council Meetings are held at the Natchitoches City Council Chambers, located at 716 Second St. in Natchitoches.

Alumnus Trevor Bailey named associate director of bands/director of athletic bands at NSU
NATCHITOCHES – Things will look slightly different for Shreveport native and Northwestern State alumnus Trevor Bailey since he last entered Turpin Stadium in 2011. New stadium lights, new field turf, new band uniforms, and a new title. The former baritone section leader will now return to Northwestern State University in the newly formed position of associate director of bands/director of athletic bands. Bailey began his duties on Monday.

Police trying to ID people who injured a person while they were stealing beer
Jasper Police have turned to the public and are asking for help to identify people who injured a person as they were stealing beer. According to police, on Thursday, July 11th the people took beer from a convenience store.
