Let's face it. It was stinking hot yesterday. Thanks to all of that corn sweat and hot temperatures in the area, we've been dealing with a heat wave to kick off the week. Although we didn't break the record for the hottest recorded temperature in the Quad Cities, we did break a daily record during Tuesday's Excessive Heat Warning. Nearly 20 percent of suicides in Illinois between 2020 and 2021 were among people 65 years and older, according to recently released data from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The suicides disproportionately affected white men between the ages of 65 and 74 years, with at least a high school education living in small urban and rural environments and involving firearms as the source of fatal injury.

The Quad Cities largest firework display had to be rescheduled this year due to flooding around Independence Day, and the rescheduled date is just around the corner. The new date has been set for Saturday, September 7th, 2024. According to the website, "The event and fireworks display will be held in downtown Davenport and Rock Island with fireworks at dusk. Ottawa City Council Sells Land For Future Development
The Ottawa City Council convened Tuesday afternoon for a special hearing including, among other things, the sale of a parcel of land at Route 6 and Technology Drive in Ottawa. The tight lipped Council only stated that the bid on the lot was accepted and the purchaser named was Ryan Companies US Inc. Promises of further information on the purchaser and what kind of business might be coming to town were given by Mayor Robert Hasty.
