Activate, a chain of tech-heavy gaming venues, has opened its first location in Minnesota.

Last week, Activate opened a 10,000-square-foot space in a Roseville strip mall, marking its first (but not last) foray into the state.

The chain offers rooms where two to five players can play collaboratively or competitively in a series of ten games that last one to three minutes each.

The competitors accumulate points and prizes, tracked through wristbands, as they work through game rooms during the 75-minute experience.

Its games include Mega Grid, a Floor Is Lava-style game that has spread through social media. Activate's version takes place on a grid of LED lights spread across a dark room.

“Launching our interactive and immersive gaming universe in Roseville marks a pivotal moment as we step into the Minnesota market," Adam Schmidt, Founder and CEO of Activate, said in a statement.
