Animal surrenders, shelter capacity push NHS to oppose property tax reform bill
OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska senators heard testimony from different businesses Tuesday on the governor's proposal to reform property taxes and cut spending. Three hearings started at 9:30 a.m. on Legislative Bills 1, 2, and 3. LB 1 is Gov. Jim Pillen's property tax plan, introduced by Sen. Lou Ann Linehan, which calls for hard caps on local spending with some exceptions like public safety and voter-approved bonds. It also calls for eliminating more than one hundred tax exemptions. The plan would cost you more money when you take your pet to the vet or a groomer.
