Randy Gravley (R) will succeed current GAB President, Bob Houghton (L)

Houghton, who previously held leadership roles at WGST and GPB, has led the GAB since 2012.

Under Houghton’s leadership, the GAB reinstated its annual convention, GABCON, which became the state’s largest gathering of broadcasters. He also founded the GAB’s Education Foundation, funding programs for broadcasting students and young professionals.

Houghton played a key role in several legislative victories, including lowering regulatory fees for stations and passing the “first informers” bill to ensure broadcaster access during emergencies. He also advocated for the Local Radio Freedom Act and continues to fight for keeping AM radio in cars.

“Serving as the President of the GAB has been the most satisfying portion of my 50-year career in Broadcasting,” Houghton said.

Gravley, the incoming president, brings over 30 years of experience to the role. He is the former President and CEO of Tri-State Communications, which includes radio, magazine, and digital divisions.

A native of Cherokee County, Gravley serves on multiple boards, including the Pickens Chamber of Commerce and the Sequoyah Regional Library.

Gravley’s broadcasting industry involvement includes past roles as Chairman of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters and Chairman of the National Association of Broadcasters’ Radio Board of Directors. He currently serves as Co-President and head fundraiser of the NAB Political Action Committee.

“It’s an extraordinary honor and privilege to be named the next President of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters,” Gravley said. “I’m excited to continue in the footsteps of Bob Houghton.”
