Jermaine Dupri announces internship for Emory students

Students at Emory University now have the opportunity to intern for Grammy Award-winning music producer Jermaine Dupri.

On Sept. 20, the founder of So So Def Recordings announced a new internship while giving the keynote session at the university’s inaugural Ideas Festival. The Ideas Festival took place from Sept. 20-22 and is billed as a “celebration of creative minds.”

According to a press release, the internship will provide two undergraduate students with the opportunity to work with Dupri at So So Def Recordings during the spring 2025 semester. Undergraduate students at the Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Oxford College, Goizueta Business School, and the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing are eligible to apply for the internship. Applications are scheduled to open later this fall, and the internship will offer academic credit.

“I’ve always been a person that gives younger individuals and people who want to be in this business a chance,” Dupri said in the release. “I’m looking for superstars that are not on the stage and I hope that I can find them in this So So Def/Emory intern partnership.”

Branden Grimmett, vice provost for career and professional development and associate dean of the Emory College of Arts and Sciences, expressed excitement about the partnership.

“Experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom are critical for Emory students to extend their knowledge,” Grimmett said. “I am thrilled Jermaine Dupri is partnering with Emory to provide a unique and transformative learning experience for our students to explore the music industry.”
