Thirteen Receive Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarships
Thirteen recent area graduates have received the Gregory D. Spring Perseverance Scholarship, an annual scholarship managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation. Colton Boser, Gracie Amore, Kevin Edwards-Hardy and Robert Casey, all of Allegany-Limestone Central School, as well as Portville’s Shaela Spring, Hailey Studley and Dayton Shaw all received awards this year.
Work on East State roundabout starts Monday
OLEAN — The next phase of work on East State Street will begin Monday. Weather permitting, work by Millennium will begin on the Barry Street intersection on Monday, city Department of Public Works officials reported. The work will include replacing the current four-way, stop light-controlled intersection with a roundabout.

Oilers Sweep Doubleheader Against Genesee Rapids
HOUGHTON, NY — The Olean Oilers swept a doubleheader against the Genesee Rapids Wednesday. Back-to-back four-run innings propelled the Oilers to a 9-7 win in Game 1. The Oilers loaded the bases early in both the fifth and sixth innings. Two infield singles, a walk and a hit batter brought four runs to tie the game 5-5 in the fifth. The Rapids retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning by scoring one run. The Oilers again loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning, and right fielder Michael Norton hit his first grand slam of the season.

The Hornell Steamers increased their winning streak to twelve games with a hard fought 8-5 victory over the Genesee Rapids on Tuesday night. Hornell now is 25-7-1 on the year and holds a five point lead over the Rapids for the top spot in the Western Division.
Oilers fall at Hornell, remain in 3rd place before finale
HORNELL — The Olean Oilers lost on the road Friday night, but remained in third place in their division by a thread entering the final weekend of the NYCBL regular season. With a 13-3 loss in eight innings at Hornell on Friday, Olean fell to 17-18 overall with just one game remaining. Dansville, meanwhile, split a doubleheader with Horseheads and moved to 16-18-1.

Olean Starts Water Service Connection Repair
OLEAN, NY — A water service connection repair will temporarily leave a portion of the city without water on Tuesday. Tioga Publishing is proud to announce their 2024 All-Star selections for the boys’ tennis season where Galeton led the way with an incredible season. Pickup Truck Crashes into Knapp Creek Home
A pickup truck crashed into a Knapp Creek home Monday afternoon. At 3:45 pm, fire and police departments – including volunteer fire departments from Knapp Creek, Allegany, Olean, and Weston Mills. Port Allegany responded with a technical rescue squad, and other Pennsylvania fire departments responded, including Derrick City and Otto Township.

A Bradford woman is wanted by the McKean County Sheriff’s Office for failing to appear. 40-Year-old Starr Lynn Belcher has an active bench warrant issued against her for failure to appear in court for trial after being served a subpoena. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Vietnam veteran, dog killed in fire at Genesee Township house
GENESEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) - Firefighters found a Vietnam War veteran and his dog dead after their house caught fire in Genesee Township early Thursday. Genesee Township Fire Chief Don Fremd said the fire was reported around 4:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Clovis Avenue a short distance east of Saginaw Street in the Beecher area.

A Cuba man was arrested in Olean on drug charges Tuesday evening. According to Olean police, 43-year-old Christopher E Herron was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance for allegedly possessing cocaine, as well as misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, along with a number of motor vehicle charges.
