We've heard it a million times, but it never gets old. Everything is bigger in Texas, and Yelp's list of the 10 most Outrageous Oversized Eats of 2024 proves it.

Yelp released a list of some of the most enormous eats across the country. The list included giant pizzas, sushi rolls the size of an arm, and the famous 13-inch donuts from Round Rock Donuts. Round Rock Donuts was the only Texas site that made it to Yelp's list.

How big is the Texas Sized Donut?

The doughnut fills an entire doughnut box, where 12 normal-sized doughnut usually fit. It is offered in glazed, chocolate-covered, or half-and-half options. Yelp's list clarified that, according to manager Deanne Moehn, you can even request it with maple or strawberry icing.

How is the Texas Sized Donut made?

To craft treats as large as your head, bakers use oversized buckets as cookie cutters for the raw dough, Deanne explained in the Yelp article. Initially round, these donuts are stretched into an oblong shape, which is characteristic of this doughnut shop.

Previous owners Jan and Dale Cohrs introduced the giant version of Round Rock's classic doughnut as a novelty, and it quickly became popular. According to Deanne, on an average Saturday, the Round Rock location sells about 300 Texas Sized Donuts.

Round Rock Donut uses original 1926 recipe

Reinhold R. Moehring launched the Lone Star Bakery in 1926 on Round Rock’s Main Street. Throughout the 1930s, he began refining his dough recipes, and by the early 1940s, he had achieved perfection with his distinctive creation: the celebrated Round Rock Doughnut.

With a bread-like dough, the donut is distinguished by its unique yellowish tone derived from fresh eggs. Unlike baking powder donuts, this yeast donut cannot be machine-made; it requires hand-rolling, cutting, frying, and icing. Even today, on busy days, the bakery churns out over 500 dozen of these beloved originals, just as it did in the past.

Round Rock Donuts has more than just doughnuts

Although famous for the original Round Rock Glazed Donut, the bakery offers a variety of doughnuts and sweet treats. These include chocolate-iced doughnuts, strawberry- or maple-iced doughnuts with or without sprinkles, cake doughnuts, and doughnut holes.

Their "Filled and Fancy Donuts" section of the menu features Cream Bismarks, Eclairs, Apple Fritters, and cinnamon twists.

Their other offerings include fruit kolaches, cinnamon rolls, muffins, cupcakes, and teacake cookies. Additionally, they make sausage kolaches.

Where can I find Round Rock Donuts?

The doughnut shop currently has two locations. One is in Round Rock, at 106 W Liberty Ave, and the other is in Cedar Park, at 1614 E Whitestone Blvd.
