Professor Allison Weiss, Prison Parole Project, Featured in Mother Jones
Washington and Lee law professor Allison Weiss was quoted in a recent issue of Mother Jones magazine for an extensive feature examining the parole process in Virginia. Professor Weiss is a legal writing instructor and also teaches a practicum class focused on parole advocacy. Prior to entering academia, Professor Weiss worked on the federal habeas docket for the Federal District Court for the Western District of Virginia. Before that, she worked for the Federal Defenders for the Western District of North Carolina in the appellate division.

National Brain Tumor Society, the largest patient advocacy organization in the United States committed to curing brain tumors and improving the lives of patients and families, will host the seventh annual Virginia Brain Tumor Walk & Race at Bryan Park on November 3, 2024. Hundreds of local volunteers and participants — including patients, survivors, caregivers, families and friends, research scientists, medical providers, and local businesses—will walk and run for a critical cause: conquering and curing brain tumors — once and for all.

The Pioneers are still aching from a 52-7 loss to Honaker at Harry Stuart Field in the Russell County Hospital Coal Bowl last season. Honaker now leads the series that began in 2011, 9-4. However, Lebanon leads the overall series between the two rival schools that began in 1936, 40-18-2.

Letcher Central defends homefield against No. 9 Shelby Valley
LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The Letcher Central Cougars and the No. 9 Shelby Valley Wildcats met on the first Friday of high school football. The Cougars found the end zone twice in the first quarter to lead 13-0. At the end of the quarter, Cougar Koby Johnson made a falling grab in the red zone before sliding out of bounds, setting Letcher Central up to score at the top of the second quarter.
Together We Can! event in Kingsport focuses on addiction support and remembrance
