Blacksmithing workshop at Sloane Museum July 28
KENT—The Eric Sloane Museum, 31 Kent Cornwall Rd., will host a blacksmithing basics workshop Sunday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program will explore blacksmithing techniques and methods through a hands-on workshop. taught by blacksmithing expert Ian McCarthy. Students will learn the basics of hand forging and design layout all while using traditional tools and methods to create a one-of-a-kind finished products. Pre-registration is required.
Tim Limbos hired as new fire marshal
KENT—The Fire Marshal Hiring Subcommittee interviewed Tim Limbos Tuesday, June 18 for the position of fire marshal that was recently vacated by Stan MacMillan. After a short executive session and a discussion with Limbos about the job, the committee, consisting of First Selectman Marty Lindenmayer, Selectman Lynn Mellis Worthington, and Building Inspector Joseph Manley, voted to recommend him for employment to the selectmen. He will be paid $40 an hour for the part-time position.

Cupcake party is sweet end to reading program
KENT—The Summer Reading program will come to an end for Teens and Tweens Monday, July 29, at 6 p.m., when Kent Memorial Library holds a Cupcake Decorating party. The event will be held in the Junior Room and the library will provide the cupcakes and decorations. Attendance at this event counts for one point towards the summer program’s eight-point goal. It is for children entering grades 5 and up only.

Prayer shawl volunteers are sought
KENT—The St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, of which Sacred Heart Church is a part, is seeking knitters and crocheters to join in its Parish Prayer Shawl Ministry. Prayer shawls are distributed to parishioners in need of some loving warmth due to illness or loss of a loved one. Blankets are also created for children who are baptized.

HRA Welcomes Donation from New Britain Youth Leads for Local Food Center
Youth leaders from New Britain Youth Leads donated money they had fundraised to HRA of New Britain’s New Britain Food Resource Center. The donation of $225 was presented by Youth Leads to HRA at the Food Resource Center’s Farmington Avenue location, HRA said, “to recognize the Food Resource Center’s efforts to provide food to thousands of New Britain residents each year who otherwise cannot access enough for their families.” The donation was presented to HRA on a ceremonial “big check.”
