ROXBURY, NJ – Roxbury Company 1 Fire and EMS hosted a 5-hour-long party on Saturday to celebrate its new $1.8 million fire truck, a “wet down” that drew visits by other area fire departments which came to spray water on the new apparatus, on kids in bathing suits and on each other.

The festivities took place at Company 1’s firehouse on Main Street in Succasunna. It featured free food, music, 50–50 raffles and a beer truck.

Roxbury Mayor Jaki Albrecht made some brief comments and christened the 100-foot, mid-mount ladder truck - named Tower 15 - a Pierce Ascendant Heavy-Duty. The truck was delivered to the fire department last September, replacing Company 1’s Engine 11 and Engine 14, vehicles that had become too old and too expensive to maintain.

The event also served as a celebration for Ambulance 110, a 2019 addition to the firehouse. Both vehicles were repeatedly doused with water throughout the day as fire trucks from departments across North Jersey rolled up Main Street, sirens activated, and stopped to display why they call these parties wet downs.

“I just want to say congratulations to Roxbury Fire Company Number One on your brand-new ambulance and your new firetruck,” said Albrecht. “As a life member of this company, I cannot be more proud. So, thank you very much.”
