ROXBURY, NJ – Roxbury High School Principal Dominick Miller today announced he has taken a job elsewhere.
In a message to members of the Roxbury High School community, Miller said he has accepted a position as the principal of Paramus High School, noting he was appointed to the post on July 16.
Miller became Roxbury High School's principal in 2018, replacing former principal Jeffrey Swanson, who retired. At Paramus, he replaces another retiree: Raymond Kiem.
“I was not looking to leave Roxbury, this situation just happened and presented a great opportunity for my family, and I,” wrote Miller. “Deciding to leave Roxbury was not easy.”
Miller, known for an affable, sometimes boisterous personality, has been in the Roxbury School District for 17 years, holding prior positions as social studies teacher, coach, Roxbury High School Assistant Principal and Eisenhower Middle School Principal.
“Over those years, and capacities, our school community helped me become a better educator, leader, friend, person and father,” Miller wrote “I am incredibly grateful for the relationships I established and will always cherish the memories we created together.”
He went on to say he’ll never be able to put into words the impact Roxbury has had on his life. “I hope that I was able to reciprocate even a fraction of the love and joy you have given me,” Miller wrote. “Roxbury will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Miller had a salary of $176,360. His replacement is the responsibility of Roxbury Schools Superintendent Frank Santora. Neither Santora nor Miller could immediately be reached for comment.
Roxbury School Board Chairman Leo Coakley said Miller will be missed.
“I was very surprised to hear that Dom was leaving,” he said. “I think he’s been a very strong and good leader in Roxbury. I think we’re the better for having had him. We are going to miss him, but we wish him all the best.”
Coakley said he learned Tuesday about Miller’s move. He said he’s yet to discuss the situation with Santora.
He said he always enjoyed the way Miller, a U.S. Marine, noted the annual birthday of the Marine Corps. He also suggested that Miller – known for dramatic introductions of students at awards presentations and other events – could have moved on to a career that would leverage that skill.
“He could get a job doing intros as a professional wrestling announcer,” joked Coakley. “I have a lot of respect for him. I think he’s done a great job.”
