The practice would be banned statewide two years later, although there have been several efforts to bring it back in recent years.
WIC Benefits Can Now Be Redeemed Through Online Order And Pick Up Through Hy-Vee App
Iowa Woman Infant and Children (WIC) has partnered with Hy-Vee to offer more convenient shopping for those enrolled in the nutritional program. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Special Supplemental Nutrition Program WIC is now available to purchase accepted items for online ordering and pick up. HHS started exploring the idea of advancing the program to participate in this new feature with a pilot program in a Des Moines store in February of this year. After working out the details to be as efficient as possible, the initiative expanded across Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska in early June. The new feature for the WIC program was made possible through a grant from the Center for Nutrition and Health Impact. HHS Director Kelly Garcia says, “This is yet another incredible example of a public-private partnership that will greatly benefit individuals receiving WIC benefits in our state. The goal of this program is to provide easier access and conveniences- and every parent of young children wants the convenience while balancing work and life.” WIC members can select qualifying food items online in the Hy-Vee app and enter their eWIC card numbers during checkout. The WIC program was established nationwide in 1974, celebrating 50 years of supporting mothers, children, and families in Iowa, assisting them to live healthier lives. WIC provides supplemental nutritious food, health care referrals, breastfeeding support, and nutritional education to pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women and infants through age five children who are at nutritional risk.

Al Charlson is a North Central Iowa farm kid, lifelong Iowan, and retired bank trust officer. The Waverly newspaper group previously published a version of this commentary. Based on the standard measures I learned to watch over 30 years as a trust officer, the U.S. economy is in good condition. We have completed seven straight quarters of real GDP growth. Corporate profits after taxes in the first quarter or 2024 were 6.4 percent higher than a year earlier. Fencing Materials Ordinance And Parking Lot Resurfacing On Carroll City Council’s Agenda For Monday
The Carroll City Council has a routine agenda for its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday evening. The council convenes at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall. Their first item of business will be to consider the second reading of a zoning change in the Highland Park Addition for a private housing project. City officials will also consider the first reading of a new ordinance outlining acceptable building materials for permanent fencing in town. The topic was first introduced during the June 24 meeting after staff received multiple complaints about pallet fences, but it was tabled after the council wanted more specific language about what will and will not be allowed. Other items on Monday’s agenda include setting a public hearing date on a proposed development agreement with Ziegler Caterpillar for their planned site on the east side of Carroll and a cost estimate for resurfacing the Great Western parking lot near downtown. The meeting on Monday, July 8, is open to the public and will be live-streamed via the city’s YouTube channel.
