ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- No one was hurt, but there is some damage from an explosion and fire at a pump house at a golf course in Royal Oak.

Firefighters called out to the Red Run Golf Club, which WWJ's Jon Hewett reports is open for business following the incident, Thursday morning.

"They are going to proceed with their day and a lot of people already out on the links on a beautiful July 4th morning," Hewett said, adding that there is no damage to the golf course itself.

Royal Oak Fire Captain Jeff Carroll said the building, where water is pumped out for irrigation purposes, was unoccupied at the time of the explosion.

    As for what, exactly happened:

"We don't know right now," Carroll said. "It's under investigation as far as what the cause was. It appears there was something that got over pressurized."

"There were several tanks within that pump house and there was an explosion that knocked the building off its foundation pretty well destroyed the building."

Carroll said firefighters were not able to enter the pump house because it was already engulfed when they arrived.

Rather than taking the fire trucks out onto the course, they used golf carts to get personnel out there to knock the fire down.

While fire personnel were expected to remain on the scene into the day, the fire is out and it's business as usual at the golf course as the investigation continues.
