Investigation underway for Ruidoso fires, reward offered for information

RUIDOSO, N.M.– The Albuquerque FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information leading to the arrests of the person or people responsible for starting the South Fork and Salt wildfires near Ruidoso that have claimed the lives of two people.

The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office said it was assisting local, state, federal and tribal partners in investigating the fires.

The South Fork Wildfire has burned 17,551 acres and is 31% contained, while the Salt Wildfire has burned 7,775 acres and is still only 7% contained.

The Village of Ruidoso announced on Saturday morning it was allowing “full-time, local residents” to return on Monday morning, nearly a week after mandatory evacuations.
