RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – The Village of Ruidoso held a fire and flood recovery town hall meeting on Tuesday night answering questions from residents affected by the fire and floods. Multiple state and federal agencies also joined the meeting.

Questions ranging from insurance claims, health hazards, and possible landslides were answered. The village said even more rain gauges and warning signs are being placed at the top of the burn scar to provide early alerts on flooding and debris flow.

Ruidoso Mayor Lynn Crawford spoke on when they will allow tourists back in. “We will be going out a new marketing campaign that we already have ready to go. So as soon as we feel like businesses are ready and that the folks have places to live we will make sure that happens and we’ll go off on all social media, print, digital, billboards, and the like,” said Mayor Crawford.

The New Mexico Forestry Division said they’re already going to shift focus to reforestation efforts in Ruidoso. The National Weather Service said they are expecting flooding on Thursday in the Upper Canyon region and along Highway 70.
