    Salvation Army sets up ‘Ruidoso Rising’ distribution event for supplies, help

    EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The Salvation Army continues to try to assist people in the Ruidoso region who were impacted by wildfires and flooding this summer.

    The Salvation Army will host a community distribution event called “Ruidoso Rising” from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 24 at Gateway Community Church, 415 Sudderth Dr.

    Bottled water, non-perishable food, baby supplies, hygiene kits, pet supplies and personal-protective equipment will be given out.

    As of July 17, the Salvation Army has helped around 2,500 people with more than 161,000 meals, beverages and snacks in the Ruidoso area. They have also distributed more than $62,000 in financial assistance and given out donated household items and supplies valued at more than $543,000, according to the Salvation Army.

    The Salvation Army is now shifting its focus from donation management to providing long-term recovery help to the Ruidoso area, according to a news release sent out by the organizatoin.

    Donation of goods are no longer needed or being accepted, the Salvation Army said.

    Those wishing to support long-term relief can make monetary donations by clicking here or texting RUIDOSO to 51555. Checks can be mailed to: The Salvation Army Roswell Corps Community Center, ATTN: Ruidoso Fire Relief, PO Box 897, Roswell, NM, 88202-0897. Designate “Ruidoso Fire Relief” in the memo line of your check.
