POCATELLO — A 38-year-old local man was recently arrested after police say punched a woman over 20 times after refusing to return the phone he borrowed from her. Wildfires Update-Juliaetta Remains Evacuated-River Fire Closes US12
An incident management team has been called in to lead the firefighting effort for a complex of blazes in Southern Latah and Northern Nez Perce Counties. The fires were sparked during Wednesday’s thunderstorm. Two major fires are burning between Juliaetta in the Potlatch River Canyon in Latah County and Myrtle in the Clearwater River Canyon in Nez Perce County. The 2,000 acre Gwen Fire South of Juliaetta has forced to the sheriff’s office to order a mandatory evacuation of that community. The 2,000 acre River Fire is burning nearby in Nez Perce County. Structures have been destroyed but officials have stated how many or what types of buildings have been lost. The fires have closed State Highway 3 South of Juliaetta and U.S. Highway 12 between U.S. Highway 95 and the Orofino area.
