Steelers veteran believes undrafted rookie is 'going to be a great player'
It's not often that an undrafted rookie makes enough of an impression to earn reps with the first-team defense to start training camp, but that's exactly what is happening in Pittsburgh.Undrafted rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop has been one of the biggest stars of Steelers training camp thus far, flashing his coverage ability over the first two days. My thoughts on Day 2 of #Steelers training camp. When will QB Russell Wilson return and who’s standing out? pic.twitter.com/Pjzha9YppL— Aaron Becker (@Aaron_M_Becker) July 26, 2024 Bishop hasn't just impressed his coaches, either. Veteran safety DeShon Elliott believes Bishop's NFL future is looking bright."He's doing...

5 for Friday: This rookie class a little different
Much was made a year ago about rookies Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. taking some time to work their way into the starting lineup. It didn't happen from Day 1. But both players had entered the NFL Draft as underclassmen, so Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wanted to make sure they didn't hit a rookie wall by playing them a lot early.
Ben Cherington's trade deadline comments dampen mood around Pirates' recent success
In the latest edition of his weekly radio show on 93.7 The Fan, Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Ben Cherington turned his attention to the July 30 trade deadline. Prior to the 2024 season, the thought of the Pirates being deadline buyers would have sounded like a best-case scenario. Now, with the deadline just over a week away, it appears the likeliest scenario. The Pirates have had a recent run of success, including a six-game win streak that pulled them to within half-game of the last National League wild card spot. It shouldn't be too much to ask for them to lock up that wild card spot, especially given the depth of their playoff-caliber pitching rotation, but it's clear that they can use some upgrades on offense.
New Kensington-Arnold officials promise repairs to dilapidated veterans memorial
As they’ve gotten older, Michele Eckman and her husband, Richard, don’t travel back to the Alle-Kiski Valley from their home outside of Dallas as often as they used to. So when they came to the area in June, they made a point of stopping by Valley High School in Richard’s hometown of New Kensington to see the “Veterans of Valley High Memorial.” It includes his name on a brick recognizing his service in the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1970 after his 1967 graduation.

Sharpsburg officials are hoping a growing chest of state and federal money will bring them something the borough hasn’t had since the 1800s — a direct connection to much of its riverfront property. On the heels of a $25 million federal award in June, Sharpsburg got a state...

Jul. 25—The Pittsburgh Pirates announced they have placed Bryan Reynolds on the major-league bereavement list Thursday, which requires a minimum stay of three games.
