Local family, Metroparks team up for Oak Openings corridor project
SWANTON — Big Sandy Campground’s expected ownership transfer this fall has prompted Metroparks Toledo to acquire 113 acres of adjacent land in the Oak Openings corridor for hiking and other light recreation. Alicia Lawson, a Toledo native who co-owns a local family-owned business called Superior Made, told The Blade in an interview Tuesday that she and her husband, fellow Toledo native Nathan Lawson, have an agreement in place to purchase Big Sandy for $1.3 million. Closing is expected in October. Superior Made RV Resort, the campground’s future name, will be owned and operated by the couple and other family members. The two are longtime RV enthusiasts who built and operated Time Away RV Resort in Lincoln, Ala., a few years ago. The Lawsons sold the Alabama property after they made the decision to move back to Toledo.

Brewery owners Mike and Kathleen Dewey say the fire was contained to the farmhouse, but without utilities in the brewing area, it costs them between 4,000 and 6,000 gallons of beer.

Kenton community comes out to fundraiser to support restaurant destroyed in July fire
KENTON, OH (WLIO) - The community of Kenton pitched in to support a local business that burned down. A recovery benefit was held in downtown Kenton Sunday afternoon to help the former employees of the restaurant 101 Smokehouse, which was completely destroyed in a fire on July 31st. People could pitch in by buying tickets for 50/50, participating in raffles, and ordering from the Smokehouse food truck. The fundraiser was organized by drivers from Shadybowl Speedway to give back to a business that has helped them.
