LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKRN) — A toddler died Wednesday evening, hours after first responders discovered her in a body of water in Southern Kentucky and flew her to a hospital in Middle Tennessee for treatment.

At approximately 11:11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office said it was dispatched to a missing 2-year-old girl who had walked away from a home on Pleasant Drive in Russellville.

The preliminary reports indicated the child may have wandered off into a surrounding cornfield, so Logan County deputies and Russellville officers immediately started searching the cornfields in the area, according to officials. Meanwhile, members of Logan County Search and Rescue and Logan County Emergency Management, along with other first responders and neighbors, explored the surrounding area.

Authorities said the girl was found unresponsive in a small body of water, so law enforcement and EMS personnel immediately began performing CPR. Then, the child was rushed to Med Center Health in Russellville, where emergency room employees stabilized her before she was flown to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in critical condition.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, Logan County Sheriff Stephen Stratton announced the toddler had died the night before.

No additional details have been released about the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
