Parkway defensive back Carmaro Mayo has been verbally committed to Louisiana Tech for several months, but that changed recently.

Mayo has reopened his recruiting because he sees a lack of stability in the Bulldog program.

“The defensive coaching staff kept changing and they’ve had three different cornerback coaches since I was committed,” Mayo told the USA TODAY Network. “And I don’t know if that staff will be there when I come.”

A consensus three-star recruit on all the recruiting sites, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Mayo is the No. 40 overall recruit in Louisiana per On3 and the No. 115 cornerback in the country. He also has offers from Arkansas State, North Texas and Stephen F. Austin

“I am focused on schools that are willing to provide an opportunity to play as a freshman,” Mayo said. “Over time, I have given much thought to my decision and through counsel with coaching staff, I have opened up my recruitment.

The Shreveport Times All-City first teamer accumulated 29 tackles and recorded a defensive touchdown last season for coach Coy Brotherton, who called him “the best cover corner in the area.”
