Forest City claims district title with 10-1 win
FOREST CITY — It was an all-Rutherford County final as Forest City faced Rutherfordton for the 9-10 baseball district championship. Forest City scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open a close game and took the title by a 10-1 score. With the win, Forest City advances to the State Tournament, hosted by McDowell County, beginning July 6. The winner of that tournament advances to the Southeast Regional Tournament in Greenville, North Carolina later this summer.

Post 423 drops pitcher's duel to Shelby
FOREST CITY — Rutherford County had a chance to wrap up the regular season Area IV title on Monday night, but they could not solve Shelby ace pitcher Colby Putnam. Rutherford County starter Jackson Gowan also pitched a solid game, but two Post 423 errors in the fourth inning led to three unearned runs as Post 423 fell 4-1. Shelby got off to a strong start as Wyatt McSwain recorded a RBI double. Post 423 pitcher Jackson Gowan settled down to record a pair of strikeouts, limiting the damage. Harrison Jackson singled with two outs in the bottom of the first, but he was stranded. Gowan worked a clean frame in the second, but the offense could not muster anything vs. Shelby ace Colby Putnum as the score stayed at 1-0.
