Mosquito Population Surges 1700%; Weekly Spraying Starts in August
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – If it seems like there are more mosquitoes than usual, there are: the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project reports that the population of human biting mosquitoes has increased more than 1700% since the same week last year. According to the Hopkinton Health Department, the state Department of Public Health reports West Nile Virus cases have been confirmed in Worcester County. Mosquito Control plans to start spraying weekly in August. Meanwhile health officials say to use a good repellent and avoid the peak mosquito hours of dawn and dusk.

The Holy Cross baseball team has received the American Baseball Coaches Association's Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization has announced. This is the seventh consecutive year that the Crusaders have received the award.
