(ABC 6 News) — Federal regulators are considering taking action after a coal ash spill in northern Minnesota. The EPA issued what’s called a “notice of federal intent” into last month’s spill in Cohasset. More than five million gallons of contaminated wastewater spilled at the Boswell Energy Center.

Farmers Union Ag Expo Center Connects Children & Families to Agriculture
The Farmers Union Ag Expo Center opened August 12, 2024, at the Brown County Fair. Inside this interactive space, the state’s largest agriculture organization connects South Dakotans who don’t live and work on farms and ranches to the individuals and animals that do. “Even though agriculture is our state’s number one industry, not many of the farm kids I grew up with became farmers. And this is not a unique story,” said Doug Sombke, President of South Dakota Farmers Union and a fourth-generation Brown County farmer.
4-H Achievement Days Held
Emmett Strasser was this year’s winner of the Don Grimsrud Memorial Award for Grand Champion Overall Beef. He is pictured with his Charolais market steer on Wednesday, Aug. 7, during the Roberts County 4-H Achievement Days. On Wednesday, live animals and static exhibits were on display for the public to view, a style show was held, and the public enjoyed the 4-H BBQ dinner and the livestock sale. Storybook Land Theatre to Perform in Sisseton
Aberdeen's Storybook Land Theatre (SBLT) is hitting the road with their new musical, "A Year With Frog and Toad," inspired by the popular children's books by Arnold Lobel. The tour will be making a stop in Sisseton on Tuesday, Aug. 13, with a FREE musical concert beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the FREE performance at 6:00 p.m. in Anderson Park. Those attending may want to bring a chair or blanket for seating. Locally the SBLT performance is sponsored by the Sisseton Arts Council. North Dakota Received Soaking Rains: 5-Day Totals
Thunderstorms and steady rain showers have dumped several inches of rainfall across North Dakota over the past several days. Numerous reports of flash flooding came in Tuesday as Bismarck Mandan, ND received three to six inches of rainfall over an hour or two Tuesday afternoon, followed by another round of 1-3 inches of rain to hit a wider area Wednesday. Rain showers remain in the forecast for the rest of today Friday 8-16-24, but for the most part outside of a few pockets of a quarter inch or so, additional rainfall will be miniscule.
