As a means of tradition, celebration, heritage, and honoring their ancestors, Buddhist Churches throughout the world have a celebration of OBON during the Summer months.

Obon or just Bon is a fusion of the ancient Japanese belief in ancestral spirits and a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars. It has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally known as Bon Odori, [Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obon]

The Buddhist Temple of Palo Alto, California, is holding their Obon Festival on Saturday, August 3, and Sunday, August 4. There will be food, music, and an Obon Odori in celebration of their beloved ancestors.

The event will be held at the Palo Alto Buddhist Temple located at 2751 Louis Road in Palo Alto. The Odori dancing will take place on Sunday from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM in the parking lot.

This is a fun family event. Check out the website for the schedule of activities for the two day festival.
