7th Street NW Open Streets: Celebrate Car-Free Fun!

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) encouraged residents and visitors to come out to enjoy the Open Streets 7th Street NW event on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

This will be a celebration of fun, transforming District streets into vibrant, car-free spaces for walking, biking, and exploring. On Saturday from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, 7th Street NW--from Rhode Island Avenue to E Street NW--will be open to everyone with over a mile of car-free space.

Mayor Bowser said: “Open Streets is about coming together as a community, staying active, supporting our local businesses, and reimagining how we use public space. We’re a walkable city, we’re a city that is focused on expanding biking and public transportation options, and Open Streets shows us what’s possible.”

There will be family friendly activities such as fitness classes, street art projects, live music, foam parties, and more.

Open Streets 7th Street NW will go on rain or shine. All are welcome. People are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring bikes, roller skates, or scooters. DDOT will be hosting a bike giveaway as part of the festivities.
