Pocahontas Man Dies in Car vs Motorcycle Accident
A Pocahontas man died this weekend when a car collided with a motorcycle in Kossuth County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident happened at approximately 1pm today (Sun) just east of Algona. A 17-year-old from Ackley was driving a compact car southbound on 160th Avenue. The teenager failed to yield to a stop sign and was struck by a motorcycle headed westbound on Highway 18. The motorcycle was driven by 42-year-old Adam Allen of Pocahontas.
Jack McVeigh helps Australia to victory in Olympic game against Spain
The 2024 Paris Olympics are underway, with men’s basketball taking the floor on Saturday. On the tournament’s opening day, one Husker helped his country to victory. Jack McVeigh scored 13 points for Australia in its opening game against Spain. He shot 4-for-8 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. The Aussie also made two free throws. McVeigh’s 13 points helped Australia start the tournament off strong. They defeated Spain 92-80, going up 1-0 in Group A. Australia faces off against Canada on Tuesday and Greece on Friday. The top eight following the group stage will advance to the quarterfinals. McVeigh played for Nebraska from 2015 to 2018. Last season, McVeigh led the Tasmania JackJumpers of the NBL with 17.3 points per game, helping them to the NBL championship and earning himself Grand Final MVP. He recently signed with the Houston Rockets. Two people seriously injured in car-train crash in central Iowa, Iowa State Patrol says
Two people have been seriously hurt after their car crashed into a moving train in Woolstock, Iowa, around 6:40 p.m. Saturday, the Iowa State Patrol says. According to the crash report, Hailey Hanus, 26, was driving east on 330th St. with Duwarn Glover, 26, as a passenger. Both were wearing seatbelts when the car struck a moving train near Eagle Creek. The report said both were seriously injured and were flown by Mercy Air to MercyOne hospital in Des Moines for treatment. Their current condition, the cause of the crash and further details haven't been released. Panther Volleyball Hope to Return to Quarterfinals
After ending the season at 7-22, the Panorama Panther volleyball team looks to return and advance in volleyball post season actually. Last season, the Panthers defeated the West Central Valley Wildcats 3-2 to advance in the Class 2A Region 4 first round. The Panthers would face off against the ACGC Chargers in the quarterfinal, but would be shut out 3-0 against the Chargers. The Panthers ended last year’s season at 3-4 in conference play, and look towards the eight seniors for leadership on the squad. Seniors Elizabeth Snyder, Madelyn Carstens, Madison Mincy, Cayden Iredale, Bridgette Ewing, Faith Recker, Hanna Smith and Kelsey Laabs look to return to post season action in their final season as Panther volleyball players.
