Restaurant chain files for bankruptcy following closure of local sites
After recently closing 48 locations, Rubio's Restaurants Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as a step toward selling the business.<\p> The coastal Mexican-inspired restaurant chain credited the closures and bankruptcy filing to diminished in-store traffic, higher food costs and increases to the minimum wage in California. The economic conditions have “negatively impacted its ability to meet the demands of its debt burden,” said Rubio’s Chief Restructuring Officer Nicholas Rubin. California's new $20-per-hour minimum wage for fast-food workers began in April. <\p>
Big piece of riverfront property for sale in West Sac
Days after West Sacramento dedicated a road extension opening up new areas of riverfront for development, a chunk of adjoining land has hit the market for sale.<\p> CBRE brokers Ryan DeAngelis and Mike Luca are marketing the former Cemex plant site at 1501 S. River Road, on the southern end of the Bridge District Specific Plan.<\p>

Activewear brand Vuori plans first area store
Activewear brand Vuori is planning a store at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville, its first stand-alone location in the area.<\p> The Carlsbad-based clothing retailer describes its offerings as performance apparel that draws inspiration from the coastal California lifestyle, "an integration of fitness, surf, sport and art," according to its website. Its clothing ranges from joggers and boardshorts to tank tops, polos and other accessories. The chain operates 58 locations throughout the U.S. and three stores internationally.<\p>
Sutter Health buys Roseville land for future primary care center
Sutter Health has purchased land in Roseville for a future primary care center. <\p> The Sacramento-based health system announced that it had closed on 7.3 acres of land on Highland Pointe Drive in the Highland Pointe office park along Highway 65. The purchase price was $4.95 million for the vacant lot, which is on the south end of Highland Pointe Drive, near the southeast intersection of Highway 65 and Pleasant Grove Boulevard.<\p>
Metro Air Park has gotten another proposal for a hotel
Sacramento County has gotten another application for a hotel, this one a five-story Cambria Suites property, though it appears to be part of a group of four.<\p> In a pre-application submitted last week, the proposed hotel would be on the northwest corner of Metro Air Parkway and Meister Way. Woodland-based Continental Development Consultants Inc., which submitted the pre-application, didn't return a call seeking comment Tuesday.<\p>

Nestled amid the palm trees of Jupiter Island, Florida, is a three-bedroom, five-bathroom house with a pool on a half-acre lot.<\p> The 2,798-square-foot house, only steps to the beach and offering ocean views, is currently listed on the market for $5.1 million. As of the time of publication, it's the cheapest house for sale on Jupiter Island, which boasts the highest median home value in America, according to Zillow Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ZG).<\p>
Tireless supporter of Auburn, Foothill small business dies at 40
Jaclyn “Jackie” Weston, the CEO of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, died in a hospital over the weekend after a sudden illness. She was 40. <\p> Known as a tireless volunteer, Weston took over as interim director of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce in 2020 during the first months of the pandemic. She has been CEO of the chamber for the past three years.<\p>

Most top-performing companies are proving to be open and transparent about pay at a time when workers increasingly expect it.<\p> That finding comes from compensation data and software provider Payscale Inc., which recently analyzed companies that beat their own revenue goals to find what they had in common. <\p>
Dim sum restaurant chain adding sites in Roseville, Davis
A Bay Area dim sum restaurant chain is adding at least two new locations in the Sacramento region.<\p> Dublin-based 88 Bao Bao has seven locations throughout Northern California, including a restaurant in Rancho Cordova. Its menu includes a variety of steamed or boiled dumpling options, pan-fried pork buns and potstickers, and rice or noodle plates.<\p>
