A New Curry Restaurant is On Its Way to Sacramento

Sacramento appears to be getting a new curry restaurant called Pakwan Curry in the Northgate Plaza at 3290 Northgate Blvd , in the former space of Lamppost Pizza . The restaurant owners are currently filing for construction permits to remodel the vacant space.

Plans submitted include new appliances, including a range and a tandoori, and upgraded utility systems. Interior and exterior remodeling will also be done. Owner Mohammed Azam stated he did not feel comfortable providing a specific opening timeframe at this stage as the permitting process might take longer than anticipated.

Azam and his family were originally from Karachi, Pakistan. After moving to San Francisco in 2008, he worked at one of the best Pakistani restaurants in San Francisco for 13 years. After moving to Sacramento in 2021, Azam realized he couldn’t “find a taste like Karachi food” and decided to pursue his dream of opening his own restaurant.

“This will be my first restaurant. I moved to Sacramento two years ago and felt like I should open a Pakistani restaurant in Sacramento.” Azam told What Now Sacramento .

Pakwan Curry will serve authentic Karachi flavors made from home recipes passed down through generations. The menu features biryani and pilaos, tandoori chicken, various curries, and breakfast items. Vegan dishes are also available. The new restaurant will offer dine-in, takeout, and catering services. The space will also be available for private events.

Azam recommended guests to try the Biryani, and also mentioned Karachi is best known for its BBQ.
