Traveling on Interstate 80? You can expect nighttime traffic delays in the Sacramento area due to construction.

Caltrans will close part of the interstate from Friday night through early Saturday morning for roadwork including concrete barrier removal, replacement and lane striping, the agency said in a news release.

The project aims to rehabilitate the roadway surface on I-80 and Highway 50 in Yolo County, according to the release.

Motorists should plan ahead for additional travel time, Caltrans said.

    Where is Interstate 80 construction?

Construction on the Yolo Interstate 80 Pavement Rehabilitation Project spans from the Yolo Causeway to West Sacramento.

On Interstate 80, the project site stretches from 1.4 miles east of Mace Boulevard to the Sacramento River Bridge, according to Caltrans.

On Highway 50, the work zone ranges from Interstate 80 to the Jefferson Boulevard overcrossing, the agency said.

Which lanes, roads will be closed? When?

According to Caltrans, the following lanes and roads will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday due to construction:

Eastbound lanes on I-80 at Chiles Road and eastbound U.S. Highway 50 at Harbor Boulevard to Jefferson Boulevard will be reduced to one or two lanes.

East Chiles Road to eastbound I-80 will be closed.

    Slow down in construction zone

Speed limits in the construction zone will be reduced to 55 mph at all times for the safety of construction workers and drivers, Caltrans said.

The California Highway Patrol will ticket any speeding motorists.

How long will I-80 roadwork last?

The $280 million project is expected to be completed in May 2026, according to Caltrans.
