(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento Kings fans excited to get their first look at first-round draft pick Devin Carter will have to wait longer than expected to see the rookie from Providence in action.

Carter, who was selected by Sacramento with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, will be held out of Summer League action, including the California Classic, as the Kings continue their medical evaluation of his left shoulder, league sources tell FOX40’s Sean Cunningham.

During Tuesday’s introductory press conference in Sacramento, Carter revealed that the injury happened during a pre-draft workout.

“Once I’m able to meet with the team doctors, we’ll figure a solution out,” Carter said when asked about the injury. “I’m not really too sure what’s going on with it.”

The 6-foot, 2-inch guard, who was born in Miami, Florida, averaged nearly 20 points a game (19.7) and nine rebounds (8.7) during his junior season for the Friars.

The California Classic Summer League will tip off Saturday in both Sacramento and San Francisco. It will run July 6, 7, and 9 at the Golden 1 Center, with an additional game on July 10 played at the Chase Center against the Golden State Warriors.
